But let\u2019s be real\u2014word travels faster than a caffeinated monkey on FM radio. Greet Marcus, Aristarchus, Demas, and Lucas, the official \u201cfellow laborers\u201d who are definitely taking notes and probably texting group updates:<\/p><p>\u201cY\u2019all, Onesimus is back\u2026 and Paul\u2019s vouching for him. <br \/>Thoughts? <br \/>\u201dPaul, ever the diplomat, hears of Philemon\u2019s \u201clove and good works\u201d (Philemon 1:5) and decides the best move is to politely request: <br \/>\u201cHey, accept your runaway slave as a brother now, cool? <br \/>I\u2019ll be checking in. You\u2019re so reputable, after all\u2014your witnesses are basically Yelp reviews with halos.\u201d <br \/>And since Philemon\u2019s generosity is apparently legendary, Paul casually adds, \u201cOh, and prep a guest room. I\u2019m coming to inspect your hospitality\u2026 and maybe your HR policies.\u201d<\/p><p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-2250 size-full lazyload\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\" data-src=\"https:\/\/isaiah.school\/my_content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/p0cr72yd.jpg.webp\">They had dinner and\u2026 Cue the real entertainment: sideways-chewing hares, whispering from the corner of their mouths like they\u2019re auditioning for a spy thriller.<\/p><p>\u201cReporting back\u201d sounds so official, so Leviticus 19:16-compliant, doesn\u2019t it? Almost governmental. Almost like they\u2019re doing the L-rd\u2019s paperwork. But let\u2019s call it what it is: sanctified gossip with a clerical collar. Sunday service rolls around and\u2014surprise!\u2014the pastor knows exactly what you said at Olive Garden last Tuesday. How\u2019d he know that? Magic? Prophecy?<\/p><p>No. Just Karen from the worship team with an iPad and zero chill, live-tweeting your sins to the leadership group chat. \u201cHe said WHAT about the sound guy? I\u2019m telling Pastor. For prayer, obviously.\u201d You sit there in the pew, fuming, no soapbox, no rebuttal time, just forced to smile <a href=\"https:\/\/isaiah.school\/strike-me-brother-the-guild-that-needed-a-wound-the-king-who-sentenced-himself-and-the-vineyard-still-waiting-offstage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">while your character gets assassinated from the pulpit via \u201cthird-plus-person testimony.<\/a>\u201d<\/p><p>Give me the mic! I\u2019ll take five minutes to clear my name before you unplug me like I\u2019m a bad stand-up act. These people are worse than the gossipy women Paul warned about. Worse than the churches in Acts that hosted magicians and sorcerers.<\/p><p>At least Simon the Sorcerer had the decency to try buying the Holy Spirit outright instead of leaking DMs (Direct messages). What\u2019s next? Bluetooth ear wigs during small group? Live-streaming your quiet time without consent? Save us all the sanctimonious TED Talk. Proverbs 6:19 wasn\u2019t kidding about \u201ca false witness who pours out lies\u201d Proverbs 18:17 \u2014 and apparently neither were the clergy gossip mills. Uninvited third-party testimony? Mr. Historian rewriting your life story from the fellowship hall? Hard pass.
